Although there are a wide variety of divine gifts that the Lord has bestowed upon members in the Church, in this month’s teaching we will be speaking in particular about the ministry gift of the New Testament Prophet. Using biblical insight, we can learn about the characteristics and ministry role of the prophet in the Church today and expose some myths as well. Learning about the role of prophets in the Church can help us to better receive their ministries and the benefits that God brings through them.

When we receive a prophet of the Lord that ministers in the power of the Spirit, we will be greatly blessed. The Lord has given his prophets the divine ability to see and hear what others may not and this is his gift to us, his body. When the Spirit wills, prophets are given the ability to see us through the eyes of God and speak forth his divine will, plans and purposes into our lives. Through the prophetic ministry we can be encouraged, edified and receive direction at key moments in our lives. If we want to totally embrace all of Jesus, this includes embracing and receiving His servants or prophets as well.
